Spot the difference
Have you ever noticed that the design on the flip side of Singapore coins is not all the same? Pre-1990 coins look like the coin on the right. Post-1990, refer to the coin on the left.

In case you're not feeling up to a game of 'spot the difference': On the pre-1990 coin, the banner of the crest (just above the year of mint) is a n-shaped arc, or a sad face. On the other hand, the post-1990 coin's banner is an U-shaped arc, or a 'smiley face'.

Urban legend says its a fengshui solution (scroll down to "The Singapore Example"). True or not, its an awesomely cool piece of trivia. Try digging out some spare change and see for yourself!
